History and Philosophy

he Herriard Estate has been in the same family for many generations and can trace its ownership back to a lieutenant of William the Conquerors called Hugh De Port. He held Herriard and extensive lands around Old Basing, where his family became the Paulet’s who owned Basing Castle and the neighbouring Hackwood Estate for many years.

The Estate is a strong advocate of a vibrant rural economy to support and maintain the beautiful countryside created by farmers and landowners. We are members of many national organisations that promote this, such as the NFU, CLA and RFS. We also accept a responsibility to assist locally where we can both local groups and organisations and by providing facilities for the village hall, a sports ground and charity events.
